Dancer in The Dark directed by Lars von Trier won the Palme d’Or – Golden Palm – 2000. Selma (Björk) is a Czeck immigrant who has settled in an American provincial town. She is a single mother who struggles in a factory to save up the operation needed to save the eyesight of a beloved son. He suffers from the same eye decease, as she is the carrier of, and whish is secretly ruining her vision. Selma’s great passion is musicals, and in hopeful moments of singing and dancing she dreams herself away from the noise at the factory. By a mistake she is accused of stealing money from her neighbor Bill (David Morse), and the drama intensifies in her life.
